Tips on saving:
- Plaster you goal everywhere! On the back of your door or on the top your mirror are great places to stick your saving goal to ensure you stay motivated by seeing it everyday.
- Needs vs Wants- Establish your needs over your wants, this will help to control impulse buying and spending unnecessary dollars.
- Treat yourself! If you have stuck to your budget/savings plan for a month reward yourself! This could be by buying that jacket you want or taking your friends out for lunch.
Tips on budgeting:
- Always spend money on due debt first- This includes things like paying the rent, water bill or cash you owe a friend.
- Shop around and compare prices before buying anything! Often things online are cheaper but it is harder to tell where your money is going
- Always give your budget flexibility- Allow room to move in your budget
- Increase your income! Do more chores around the house or get a part-time job
Tips on writing a resume:
- Proof Read all your work! Get a parent or older sibling to read over it for you- two set of eyes is better than one!
- Use a template- If you have never written a resume before you should always use a template (available here) and alter to your personal preferences
- Supply at least three methods of contact- Email address, home and phone numbers.
- Tailor each resume to the specific job you are applying for
- Talk yourself up as much as much as you can by supplying both skills and qualifications
Tips on spending money:
- When buying a car, buy smart not flashy. Nobody expects your first car to be flashy and brand new - second hand car yards are great places to look when searching for a car.
- Go half-half with your parents- When buying fairly expensive items ask your parents if they will go half-half with you, meaning you pay half and they pay half.
- Never deposit money to somewhere you are not familiar with, make sure you check that all online businesses are secure and not SCAMS!
- If you come across a dodgy website while shopping remember to always report it to ScamWatch (Australia)
- Make sure what you think you are buying is what you are actually buying- Remember to check companies returns and refunds policies.
